The process of creating image file or copying content from one disk to another is called as disk cloning. In windows we can easily clone using norton ghost, paragon backup & recovery tools, nero etc. lets look up few linux softwares which can make this task easy.
1) dd command
dd is an inbuild command within linux. lets have a look the syntax to use this command, lets use it first for cloning partitions.
[root@indianpirates ~]# dd if=/dev/sdb3 of=/dev/backup/sdc3
Where if = input file, of = output file, You can also clone disk using below command.
[root@indianpirates ~]# dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sda1 bs=2M conv=noerror
To restore a file you can using the same command in reverse order exactly listed below
[root@indianpirates ~]# dd if=/dev/backup/sdc3 of=/dev/sdc bs=1M conv=noerror
